Course Title: North-South educational partnerships

Course Description: This course focuses on the role that partnerships between educational institutions from Northern countries (Europe, North America, Japan) and Southern countries (Africa, South Asia, Latin America) play in terms of building greater understanding of global and development issues and perspectives. It helps you to critically reflect on the contributions such partnerships make to understandings of different social and cultural perspectives in the wider world.
This course aims:
- to develop greater understandings of, and critically reflect on, the contribution of North-South educational partnerships to building a greater understanding of learning in a global society.
- to provide educational practitioners with the skills to effectively engage in partnerships and to facilitate mutual learning between practitioners around the world.
- a greater understanding of the contribution of North-South partnerships to development education and learning within a global society;
- skills to manage effective partnerships;
- a greater understanding of where and how North-South partnerships can contribute to changes in understanding of global and development issues within an educational institution;
- an understanding of, and an ability to engage with, issues regarding diversity and different social and cultural perspectives and approaches in partnerships.
Assessment: 2 Written Papers; Assignment 1 (1,500 words) 20% / Assignment 2 (3,500 words) 80%
Course Credit: This course offers 30 credits that can be transfered to IoE Certificate, Diploma or Masters-level programmes, on consultation with the IoE Registry
Course Study Hours/Duration: 300hrs over 12 weeks of study and assessment
Schedule of Availability: Oct - Dec (enrolment by 30th July) / April - June (enrolment by 21st November)
