Course Title: Research design, management and writing grant applications

Course Description: This course will enable you to undertake a research project, with an appropriate study design to validate a hypothesis and analyse the data, including the presentation of results and writing a grant application. Subject areas: introduction to scientific research and how to formulate a hypothesis; literature search, critical analysis of papers and writing a scientific review; experimental and statistical design in project planning; project management; preparing data for analysis - qualitative data, quantitative data; statistical analysis and analysing the validity of findings; report writing, presentation of data and writing a scientific paper; introduction to grant application writing, planning the project and budget; guidelines to writing a good grant proposal.
Assessment: Exam 80% - 1 Written Assignment 20%
Course Credit: All RVC 240-hr Short Courses offer transfer of credit to RVC Certificate, Diploma or Masters-level programmes within 4 years of completion
Course Study Hours/Duration: 240 hrs over 35 weeks
Schedule of Availability: The study period is between Feb - Oct. For enrolment, all RVC short courses are available throughout the year on a rolling enrolment basis. However, 240-hr courses (taken from the Masters programmes) have exams to be taken in Oct each year
